CAP Elite Athletes Rate Top at Nike Sparq Testing

Spring TX-  As the Central Truck pulled up at the campus of Klein Oak High School, there was no way of predicting the events that would take place during the SPARQ test today.  Both the baseball and fastpitch varsity teams SPARQ tested inside, due to poor weather conditions, and neither team disappointed.

The Klein Oak baseball showed great competitive spirit and athleticism as they earned an overall team score of 63.12.  Senior SS Scott Arthur paced the Panther baseball team with a SPARQ rating of 71.6.  Arthur, who has already signed to play baseball at Texas A&M University next season, showed amazing strength and quickness during the test.  Arthur dominated the 30-Yard Dash with a time of 3.80 seconds and took the title in the power ball with a toss of 54.5 feet.  “I work out every other day,” commented Arthur.  During those workouts Arthur mentioned he does “a lot of bench, squats and power-cleans in the off-season as compared to during season I work with a lot lighter weights and quick sprints."

The most impressive showing of the afternoon didn’t come from an individual, but from the entire Panther fastpitch team.  After the Elkins fastpitch team scored a team SPARQ rating of 83.70, the competition seemed all but over.  After hearing how high the bar was set, the Lady Panthers took a lot of pride in trying to over take the top spot.  When the testing was all said and done the Lady Panthers not only took the top spot, they made sure that everyone else in the country knew who they were.  Their overall team score was an outlandish 92.76.

Jami Schkade has never even played in a high school fastpitch game, however the freshman 2B made sure that when she does, her opponents will know who she is.  Schkade rated off the charts with a miraculous 102.0 placing her in the top 99th percentile in the country for high school fastpitch athletes.  Schkade works out at the local training facility CAP Elite, where “we do a lot of plyometrics and weight lifting.”  After taking the summer off from fastpitch, Schkade is back at it trying to have an even better season then she did a year ago. “I train 3 days a week for an hour at a time after school.”  Schkade took 3 individual titles during the SPARQ test.  Her 4.87 second shuttle time placed her in the 98th percentile, 40 foot power ball toss in the 95th percentile and 22.7 inch vertical in the 95th percentile.  Quite the all around athlete for a freshman.

A majority of Lady Panthers also placed themselves in the elite athlete category.  Ashleigh Jones posted a 22.2 inch vertical (95th percentile), 4.97 second shuttle (95th percentile), and a 39.5 power ball throw (90th percentile).  Kaydee Rayburn posted a 3.13 second 20-Yard Dash (90th percentile), 4.92 second shuttle (95th percentile), and a 22.6 inch vertical (95th percentile).  Brittany Walker posted a 4.94 second shuttle (95th percentile).  Cassen Salamone’s 22.2 inch vertical placed her in the 95th percentile.  Bree Brown placed in the 90th percentile with her 21.3 inch vertical.

The central truck would like to thank the Klein Oak baseball and fastpitch teams for allowing us to SPARQ test them.  Congratulations to the Lady Panthers for taking the #1 spot in the country with an overall team rating of 92.76.  Good luck this season panthers and keep up the hard work.
