People are confused more than ever about how to burn fat. They are confused about the best way to go about achieving the body they want. They are confused about what works and what doesn’t, and the reasons why. There are countless individuals slaving away in gyms and fitness centers around the country right now.

They are working tirelessly, almost every day, on the treadmill, stair-climber, elliptical, etc. to burn those calories and fat. They also might be lifting weights several times a week for hours at a time to build some strength and muscle. They might even join a few aerobics or spinning classes too.

They are probably also trying one of the latest diet strategies that promises miracle fat burning and weight loss. They could also be spending a lot of money on the latest and greatest dietary supplements that could be that miracle pill that will aid in weight loss. They are also carefully watching the scale as their main judge of fat loss progress.

If it goes up a pound or two, they may behave rashly and maybe even change up their entire workout or diet program! And of course there are others are doing variations on that same theme.

After all, this is the kind of stuff that many of the popular fitness and diet gurus typically recommend to burn fat. But with so many different strategies and plans being pushed as the be all and end all, what happens is we tend to overboard.

And when that happens, we lose sight of what really matters in achieving lifelong fat burning, fitness and health…the principles than many people don’t know about, most people have forgotten, and only a select few put to use to achieve lifelong health and fitness. These are the same principles I used to drop over 40 pounds of unwanted body fat, keep it off, and revitalize my life!

With any exercise or nutrition program, you’ll probably lose some fat initially, but far too often the progress doesn’t continue or doesn’t come as fast as the person would like because they’re using a temporary mindset. They’re only focused on the short term and one specific goal. So they end up switching to something else, and the cycle continues until they’ve become consumed by this cycle of confusion.

I believe that this is one of the biggest, if not the #1 reason for the lack of fat loss and fitness progress that is being experienced by the masses of exercisers and dieters in the world. They are jumping from one fad diet or exercise routine to another, while losing sight of what’s really important, and what really works.

Simply put, they are exercising far too much, not nearly intensely enough, and trying to adhere to unrealistic diet recommendations.

If instead they focused on a long term plan, a lifestyle as it’s often called, and didn’t worry about “losing 10 pounds by summer”, they would find it far easier to do the right things most of the time.

And those right things include brief, progressive, and intense resistance training, eating a diet full of nutrient rich foods, drinking tons of water, and getting plenty of quality sleep and rest. The students of my Fat Burning Furnace method understand this and are reaping the life long health and fitness rewards because of it. Are you?

Our Partners over at NutrientRich.com are offering a Free Upcoming Webinar Event and Immersion called Switch to Rich!

As you train using (SIC) short, intense and consistent workouts, if you want to get the best results, then you want to be eating a whole foods, plant-based Nutrient Rich Diet.

Contrary to how most people eat when they traditionally want to lose weight, learning how to Lose Weight the Nutrient Rich way will make a big difference for you. You will get introduced to how you lose weight the Nutrient Rich Way when make the Switch to Nutrient Rich Foods.

Most diets are about losing weight.
The very term “diet” is perceived as being about weight loss. This could also be true when eating a Nutrient Rich diet. But the other use of the term “diet” is simply the way you eat, which is referred to as an “eating plan”.

Eating a Nutrient Rich is not inherently a weight loss diet plan, it’s a quality standard for how you eat and a major enhancement for virtually anyone on any diet or eating plan. Everyone has a diet, it’s just a question of what quality.

Now, if you want to learn how to lose weight the nutrient rich way, versus the nutrient poor way, which is how most people lose weight at risk of compromising their health by eating too little or low carb etc, then that’s a subject that get’s discussed as part of Switching to Rich.

Some people desperately want to lose weight, and they want to do it naturally not by manipulating their diet in ways that are are hard to stick with or compromise their health.

When you begin making the Switch to Rich, how you go about losing weight and staying health will make all the difference in the world to how much you enjoy eating!

So Wat’s Your Primary Aim?

Just start eating healthier?

Improve Your Health, including all your vital signs? (cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure, etc….)

Lose weight?

In the upcoming event, called Switch to Rich, you’ll get introduced to all three phases.

Prepare to Immerse Yourself!

One of the great things about the Monkey Bar Gym is that it was founded on the premise that exercise is natural; that fitness is really about running, jumping, pulling, sprinting… essentially challenging yourself using portable gear, your body weight and your natural environment. Essentially, that fitness is really about PLAY!

Jon Hinds and his family fitness company Lifeline USA, have been creating fitness gear on that premise for nearly 4o years and unlike many other training facilities, The Monkey Bar Gym has not equipment in it other than portable fitness gear, the bodies that walk in and the natural environment around the facility.

I always keep portable fitness gear around, to challenge myself regularly, and since I don’t have a Monkey Bar Gym close by me, I use a Portable Monkey Bar gym to do many of the exercises I would do at Jon’s Gym.

I think having portable gear around turns your house into a gym, and you never miss a workout.

Challenge Yourself!

Yes MyTrainer is a big glorified blog that brings together all of the elements of the free fitness video and social site that is developing to power it. At MyTrainer you’ll be able to view the top videos from people all over the world who are sharing their fitness and training strategies comprised of mainly Short, Intense and Consistent “SIC Workouts” using portable fitness gear, body weight and the natural environment.

See About MyTrainer.com.

We decided on a simple blog home page because it was less overwhelming, and simplified the site’s content to focus you each week as you learn new ideas and put them into action.Sort of like a digest, the home page will summarize what’s going on in the MyTrainer Network each week.

We will also be highlighting the most effective portable fitness gear we can find, since it’s inexpensive, “anywhere, anytime” and so much more fun than going to gym and working the steel machines.

Video’s will highlight people from all over the world [including founding lifestyle and fitness trainers, John Allen Mollenhauer and Eddie Enriquez and Susanna de Beer] who will be demonstrating their insights and training tips too.

Short, Intense and Consistent.(SIC)

If you want to have a “SIC” workout, then read on.

Ironically, most people are simply out of alignment with all three of these concepts and that’s why they are not fit for success!

What do they do?

They think they need to exercise for long periods of time, as if more was better. They do “slow boring cardio”, and the same exercises as yesterday, at the same weight, for “4 sets of 10 reps”… same thing they did last week. They don’t challenge themselves and things never change, like their body.

This bores the living daylights out of most people and because they over train, they can’t sustain. They get depleted, on top of everything else in their life and naturally they don’t see the results they want.

This combination of over training, feeling depleted and poor results, ultimately means inconsistency. Now add to that a poor lifestyle that provides no support and I can tell you without question why so many people are in active.

Sound familiar?

I don’t stick with exercise programs frankly, I have a fitness oriented lifestyle or whats called a “PerformanceLifestyle” and I build in SIC work outs all the time!

What people forget is that fitness in today’s day and age is “mass bodybuilding” and obsessive for a variety of reasons I can’t get into in this post. I am a former bodybuilder and know this obsession of training for hours. Yet while still to this day I embody the desire to build my body, I know that I don’t need to train like a body builder to build a great body!

My goals are different.

Bodybuilders have building their body, like a business, as their goal. And athletes too have sport as their occupation! This is not the case for the person who’s business may be marketing, or construction or something else; who sees fitness as something they maintain in their life, not the goal itself. They want high levels of fitness, but still fitness is not the goal itself like it is in bodybuilding and sport.

Now anyone who knows me, knows that I teach athletic principles for healthy goal achievement in Performance Lifestyle training, and the one thing I do to be successful at this is, is activate and strengthen my body regularly as part of the lifestyle.

Fitness principles in the context of goal achievement outside of body building or sporting endeavors are applied similarly, but are very different at the same time. Major shifts take place in the duration and frequency.

The reason so many people are unsuccessful maintaining their fitness is because they don’t understand fitness in the context of life and lifestyle where the goals are not ripped bodies and sporting success. You can have both, but in order to have both you need the lifestyle that supports the outcomes and this is what most people don’t have!

It’s not all about long workouts that are hard to sustain and recover from.

It’s very difficult to train like a bodybuilder or sports athlete on top of an already full schedule, that is not naturally set up to support fitness outcomes. Your lifestyle has to support in every way, the outcomes you seek.

The reason why short, intense and consistent workouts are the 3 magic words in fitness, is this… for the people who’s business is outside bodybuilding and sports, it is the only sustainable way train and maintain the levels of fitness you want.

SIC workouts are otherwise known as high intensity training or HIT, or interval training workouts, both very popular ways of training for these very reasons, but less descriptive terms than SIC.

You can have SIC workouts all the time!
Many times a week, when they challenge you and promote growth, yet they don’t deplete you or require you to recover for 48 hours. Bodybuilders and athletes can do that, you probably can’t!

When you don’t understand these 3 magic words, you might be making more out exercise than it needs to be and depriving yourself of the results you want.

We’ll delve more into these concepts in the next 3 posts and will be showing you ways to implement SIC workouts.

This SIC workout happens to be at a gym and goes beyond “portable” fitness equipment, but it is an intense workout that is powerful and might take a few days to recover from, but in the the meantime, your body becomes a fat burning furnace, because your metabolism will be naturally stimulated, but not depleted, which is the hallmark of a SIC workout.

Written by Andrew Wallen, MS, CSCS, NASM-CPT

Too many times I see people who put themselves through extremely hard workouts and yet still find a way to waste it with their lifestyles. They think that by working out hard, this gives them a justification for eating and drinking whatever they want throughout the rest of the day and the days that follow until the next workout.

The crazy aspect is they expect to see results at the same time. Now this philosophy may work for a small percentage of people in this world that are very lean and that can pretty much eat whatever they want (who are probably not reading this article), but for the majority of people that continually battle with their jeans from 5 years ago, this is not the thought process that needs to occur in order to see results from their workouts.

The alternative solution (if this person is you) is to think ‘Don’t waste your workout’! Whether your goal is weight-loss, rehabilitation, or sports performance, your lifestyle outside the gym is just as (if not maybe even more) important than the workout itself. The average fitness enthusiast spends about 1 hour 3 times per week working towards his or her goal by performing cardio-respiratory training, strength training, or a combination of both each week. This means that out of a possible 168 hours in a week, a workout totaling 3 hours is less than 2% of the total hours available for that week.

I’m not the smartest person in the world but I know I wouldn’t expect to see any results doing something only 2% of the time. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t expect clients to have the ability to commit more than 3 hours per week to their workouts but what I do expect is for individuals to make the most out of those workouts and don’t be counter-productive with the lifestyle outside the gym (see my next article entitled The Performance Lifestyle Model.

‘Don’t waste your workout’ is the quickest but most precise way for me to get my clients to understand that it’s not only the workout that matters but what they do after that might make or break their results. When I say ‘Don’t waste your workout’, I mean the following:

    * Following properly advised nutritional guidelines
* Getting the proper amount of sleep to aid in recovery
* Limiting the amount of empty calories (pop, alcohol, sports drinks)
* Being more active in your daily life (sitting less and being more upright)

Just following these tips will definitely help aid in faster and more desirable results. I know these may be elementary to most of us but just seeing them written down sometimes helps one to focus better. Now go kill yourself in your respective workout but keep in mind ‘Don’t waste your workout’ to see those results that you most definitely deserve.
